Over 250 Episcopal schools in Haiti provide quality education to children of all faiths
and remain an anchor of stability and progress in the communities they serve...
These schools are seeking long-term cultural and prayerful relationships and financial support
through the Partnership Program.
The need for the mission and work of Episcopal schools in Haiti,
and for supportive partnerships with Episcopal schools and organizations here in the United States,
remains important and critical to the long-term rebuilding of Haiti as a whole following the earthquake of 2010.
NAES urges its schools to enter into such a partnership through the diocese’s Partnership Program,
either alone in in concert with other Episcopal schools and institutions.

Reasons why we participate...

- Hope and Support — the 250+ schools in Haiti serve not only as places of education, but also often are resources for health care, water and food, and other needs within the community. On Sundays they are churches – places of worship which deepen the faith and hope of a faithful and hopeful people. Helping the schools, helps the people, and helps the community. Our support is critical to the long-term rebuilding of Haiti as a whole.
- Partnership — this is about developing a relationship, not just sending money. Episcopal schools support other Episcopal schools, faculty members support other teachers, students support other students. Sharing information about schools, learning about each other, and committing to a long-term relationship help root the partnership.
- Financial — schools need assistance with student tuition, teachers’ salaries, uniforms, building improvements and expansions, furniture and basic supplies, feeding programs; the goal is to help them become self-sustaining.
- Travel — traveling with a group to Haiti helps us develop our partnership and helps us get to know one another; it also serves as a way to understand how our funds might help and to witness, in person, how the funds are being used to sustain the work of the school.
- Episcopal identity — the National Association of Episcopal Schools strongly urges its schools to enter into a partnership; this is an area where St. Matthew’s is collaborating with Episcopal schools locally and across the country, as well as internationally in Haiti.
- Life changing experience – those traveling come into contact with a reality very different than their own. Seeing and experiencing things in person can be very different than reading or hearing about them.
